Esther Study Guide – Esther 6:1-14
• What does the Book of Records of the Chronicles represent? (Esther 6:1) The Word of God.
Does God also control the chapter and the day of our life? (Isaiah 42:16-17) Yes, He does mightily.
• Teresh = “strictness” (Esther 6:2)
Bigthana = “in their wine-press”
They were the keepers of the door. Which door was that?
What does the “winepress” point to? (Isaiah 63:3, Revelation 14:19)
What does the “strictness” point to? (Galatians 3:10)
How did Teresh and Bigthana want to change the King’s Gospel program for entrance into heaven? They preferred that no human being became saved, for then they would have to serve them (Hebrews 1:14)
• “Who sought to lay hand on the king Ahaseurus” (Esther 6:2). They wanted His power to rule over mankind.
What was this incident in history with these eunuchs? A rebellion among the angels because of Hebrews 1:14.
Why did the eunuchs strive? Because of “Pride” (Isaiah 14:13-14).
What hope do eunuchs have for the future?
• Did Mordecai (a picture of Christ) deserve honour and dignity at that time? (Esther 6:3). Yes. But it was only planned in the counsel of God. Satan did not know it. His honour and dignity was postponed until after the cross.
What point in time is in view in Esther 6:4-11? Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem (Matthew 21:1-17)
• Mordecai came very close to being executed (Esther 6:4). But Haman must ask the king’s permission for everything that he wants to do.
Is that a restriction how Satan must operate? Yes.
There is only one God. There are not two gods out there who each are doing their own will.
• Haman is puffed up with pride (Esther 6:6) Read Proverbs 16:18.
• What does the royal apparel symbolize? (Esther 6:8) It is the beauty of the King’s righteousness (Isaiah 61:10).
What does the horse symbolize? A horse is for war (Revelation 19:11-15).
What does the royal crown symbolize? The Old Testament diadem was a symbol of the power to rule. In the New Testament a crown is for a crown of glory (1st Peter 5:4) and for a crown of life (Revelation 2:10).
• Who does the “one of the kings most noble princes” represent? (Esther 6:9) The man Christ Jesus.
Has there been a preview of this parade? Yes.
When? Where? Who arranged it? The Ark of the Covenant, which represents Christ, was brought into Jerusalem by David (2nd Samuel 6:12-17).
Did Satan have a premonition of his downfall? Yes. It was told him throughout the Old Testament and Satan does read the Scriptures (Genesis 3:15, Esther 6:13, Matthew 4:6).
• Proclaim before Mordecai the Jew (Esther 6:11), “Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the King delighteth to honour”.
Will God bestow this honour unto everyone who is a “Jew”? This is only a symbolic statement. Read Romans 2:29). Our real honour in the New Heavens and New Earth is infinitely greater than anything in this life.
• Mordecai sat at the King’s gate (Esther 6:12) Read John 10:7 and John 14:6.
Mordecai the Jew was Esther’s Kinsman. The words Kinsman and Redeemer are the same word in Hebrew (Ruth 4:14).
Was it necessary that Boaz was a kinsman of Elimelech? (Ruth 2:1)
• “And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him.” (Esther 6:13)
Since he went to see the king very early in the morning, it has taken him all day to tell his wife and friends all these things. It has been known to everyone that Haman initiated the decree to kill all the Jews on the 13th day of the 12th month. (Esther 3:13)
• Hurry up Haman; the queen is waiting (Esther 6:14)
Will he be able to rescue the situation?
• What can we say about God’s timing in this story of Esther?
In God’s perfect timing the roles are reversed. Mordecai was rescued just in time. That is what we think.
What can we say about God’s timing in history? It is perfect. Christ came “in the fullness of time”!
What can we say about God’s timing in our life? It is perfect, but we are impatient.
Jesus is LORD!
