Preachers

There has never been, is not now, and never will be, but two kinds of preachers in the world—one true, and the other false—those that God calls, and those that the love of money and the Devil calls.

When God calls a poor hell-deserving sinner to preach His everlasting Gospel; that man feels his unfitness, and unworthiness; and as one of old said, “I am a man of unclean lips.” The Spirit of Christ in this man makes him meek and humble, and submissive to the will of his brethren, and his desire will be to be a servant of the church. And you will not find him trying to boss and rule the church. Neither will you find him trying to justify himself in any act that is not right. The Devil and all his angels (money-called preachers) will be the avowed enemy of this man, and every form of Arminianism will be arrayed against him.

When money and the Devil calls a man, he will feel and show his importance, and will desire to he looked up to; and you will find him trying to boss and rule the church, and when he is overtaken in some wicked act, you will find him seeking to justify himself, and gathering together his forces: and everyone of his kind, will travel miles to help him out of his trouble. The poor little sheep and lambs of the flock (true believers) have always suffered persecution at the hands of these kinds of men.

The God-called man will preach a doctrine that honors and exalts God, and gives Him all power, all glory and all wisdom, and who recognizes Him as a sovereign ruler over all worlds, times and events—a doctrine that never has, and never will be accepted by men and women, that have not been born again.

The other fellow will preach a doctrine that is acceptable to the carnal mind of men and women—a doctrine that limits the Holy One of Israel. He ascribes a part of the honor and glory to God, and a part to the creature, viz., two salvations—activity of the creature, and various other Arminian theories. If one thing does not please the carnal mind enough for people to pay him what he thinks he ought to get, it is always easy for a fellow of this kind to change to another man-pleasing doctrine. For the better he pleases the carnal mind, the more money he gets, and the better he serves his master.

You do not have to guess as to which class of preachers any certain individual belongs. Christ has said, “Ye shall know them.” And what you know you do not have to guess at. This never-failing rule, left on record by your blessed Lord and Master, will tell you to a certainty every time. Read it in Matthew 7:16. (Matthew 7:15-20. 15—Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16—Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17—Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18—A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19—Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20—Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.)
