The Last Word

All of us have known and do know those who must have the last word. They just refuse to give up till they are right, till they are heard. Most of our children were like this while growing up, we would tell them to be quiet, but they just kept on, until we had to discipline them. Some people just don’t know when to quit. We have often said to keep peace, ‘alright you can have the last word!’

Our Lord Jesus said of some who had great confidence that they would have the last word.

“Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?”
(Matthew 7:22)

These folks thought that will be the end of the matter, we know what we have done, we know we are good people, with good deeds, with good intentions.

But did they have the last word?

Listen to who really when it is all said and done that has the last word.

“And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”
(Matthew 7:23)

That was the last word they heard.

I truly feel sorry for those who are so cocksure of themselves. Who must at all cost be right in their opinions, who feel that the way they view circumstances, and situations must be right and true, because they are after all, honest and sincere.

But my friends, God Almighty is going to have the last word. He had the last word at the flood, He had it at Sodom and the cities of the plain. He had the last word by the death of His Son on the cross. He will have the last word at the judgement. There, those who put so much stock in their opinions, feelings, and insight, their big mouths will be stopped.

Maybe it would be wise to shut up now, to give up your opinion of yourself now, and submit to God’s word, For It Is Final. It is the Last Word!
