Feed on the Word of God

“Behold the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.”
(Amos 8:11-12)

How blessed I have been to have been exposed to God’s word all of my life!

Not only have I had access to the pages of Scripture in my own hands, but I have been under the sound of countless Biblical, Holy Spirit-anointed sermons from God’s messengers.

This word in Amos was one of the judgments of God pronounced upon disobedient Israel. It should ever be our prayer that we would not experience the same. Much worse than a failing economy is a famine of the hearing of God’s word. The word of God is our light. It shapes our spiritual vision, strengthens our faith, and sets our lives upon the only solid, stable foundation. It feeds the soul, comforts the sin-suffering heart, reveals the salvation of Christ, and leads us to a life of fruitfulness to God.

Where would you and I be today without God’s faithfulness in our lives to give us an abundance of “hearing of the words of the Lord”?

Let us ever seek His word, have a hunger for it and a desire to be shaped by it. May we faithfully pray for God to bless the ministry of His word (in public and private) and that there would be multitudes who would begin to feed on it in this day.
