A Minister’s Cure For Sleepy Hearers
It has been said of Mr Isbell, who laboured as the Lord’s servant at Bath for many years, that the sleepiness of many of his hearers was a great trial to him.
So one Lord’s day he took with him, into the pulpit, a bat and ball.
After he had begun his sermon and noticing the nodding heads of some of the congregation he began to play with the bat and ball.
How they sat up and looked at this minister of the gospel!
“Ah,” he said, “when I do the Lord’s work you are half asleep, when I do the devil’s work you are wide awake!”
