A Short Study of Jeremiah 23:28
“The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD.“ (Jeremiah 23:28)
What are the dreams of the deluded when weighed in the balances with the faithful proclamation of God’s truth? They are nothing. They are vanity, and less than vanity.
Compromising God’s truth to retain one’s status quo, to keep their status, their friendships, their reputations, and their positions in this world—this world, which is soon to be dissolved in the fury of the Lamb who sits upon the throne is folly. God’s truth is more important than all these things. To choose men, reputation, position, and peace over God’s truth is to choose worthless things over the God of mercy, grace, and truth. And all who do so bring ruin upon themselves.
“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.” (Matthew 16:24-27)
Ah, many tell their compromising dreams, but he that hath God’s word must speak it faithfully, regardless of the cost.
To compromise the blessed truth of God’s word is to compromise the truth of God itself. And for what—the praise of men? To get along with rebellious sinners? To retain the wind? Whatever happened to standing on “thus saith the LORD”?Amend your ways, and bow the knee. Repentance and surrender are the only way out of this thing alive.
Compromise is not of God—it is of the devil! If you compromise one verse, you compromise the whole Book—God’s truth is one. And no man compromises the truth without compromising his soul. To compromise the scriptures for the sake of unity, peace, or any such thing is to side with the devil—the façade of charity notwithstanding. There are only two sides in this warfare—God’s side and the devil’s side. Whose side are you on? Buy the truth, and sell it not.
