The God Called Preacher and The Antinomians
The God-called, God-sent preacher will be sound in doctrine—BUT ALSO SOUND IN EXPERIENCE KNOWING THE POWER OF THE SOUND DOCTRINE AS APPLIED TO HIS OWN SOUL.
The letter killeth, but the Spirit maketh alive.
Paul not only preached sound doctrine, but he preached such doctrine in the power and demonstration of the Holy Spirit. Paul’s sound doctrine was mixed with tears according to his own inspired writings.
To rest sweetly in sound doctrine is one thing, to rest in sound doctrine AND IN SIN (a wrong use of sound doctrine is certainly possible and probable with some according to the New Testament as some did with writings of Paul) is abominable and will lead to certain damnation unless God peradventure grace repentance.
From my readings of the sermons of William Gadsby, one word prevails when it comes to distinguishing the faithful from the profane, the wheat from the tares—POWER, POWER, POWER.
Shakespeare was O so right when he said, “Satan can cite Scripture for his purpose.” Some shall go to hell with Bible under their arm (any version) from the doorstep of the church.
