A Short Study of Matthew 7:6
“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.”
(Matthew 7:6)

In the Bible, the word “dogs” is used in the sense of those who are accursed, those who are under the judgment of God. For example, we read in Revelation 22:15, “For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie,” which refers to the unsaved.
The word “swine” is used in the same sense in that it refers to anyone who is accursed, a figure taken from the Old Testament. Swine was not to be eaten; it was forbidden.
The pearls that God speaks of would have to be the Gospel, the precious Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. When we present the Gospel to some people, they are intrigued; they are interested.
On the other hand, there are those who are affronted by the Gospel. They want nothing to do with the Gospel; they mock and ridicule. They do all manner of things in order to keep us from presenting the Gospel. In this case, God is simply saying that we do not have to, and should not, bring the Gospel to them. If they do not want to hear, then we should find somebody else to tell.
This is indicated in the example in the last chapter of Acts. Paul was attempting to bring the Gospel to the Jews, and a few of them believed, but most of them had absolutely no interest. Therefore, he said in Acts 28:28, “Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.”
Jesus is LORD!
