The Consumed Sacrifice

“Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.”
(1 Kings 18:38)

——————–

There was a day (appointed by God Himself) that the Lord ordained to make His power, presence, and will known.

On this day He would display, before the people, His answer to their foolish double-mindedness.

According the HIS WORD, the answer was to be made by fire.

Fruitlessly the false prophets of Baal called upon one that could not answer. They foolishly put all silly notions of false worship to the test. Vain repetitions, much activity, and even self infliction, but to no avail.

The one avenue by which God Almighty makes Himself known is not through these silly religious activities, but through the sacrifice of His Son!

On the same day, Elijah prayed that God would reveal Himself alone to be God. His appeal to the Lord was made by way of the sacrifice Who is TRUTH.

Not just any sacrifice would be accepted.

The false prophets had a sacrifice, but not one acceptable to God.

The sacrifice of Christ is alone that sacrifice that has put away sin for those chosen unto salvation.

So complete was this truth set forth, that the fire from heaven (the wrath of God) consumed the bullock, the wood, the altar, the dust, and licked up the water poured upon the sacrifice.

Every part of that sacrifice pictured our blessed Lord, thereby proclaiming Christ’s monumental victory …“It is finished”.

Finished is the wrath of God toward those for whom Christ died. Finished is the work that He accomplished, thereby earning a righteousness imputed to His own, and finished is the sting of death and victory of the grave to those He has eternally loved.
