The Ravished Heart of Christ

“Thou hast ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse…”
(Song of Solomon 4:9)

Indescribably precious is the love of Christ for His bride – the believer.

We know that is true because it is based totally on His Word (John 15:9).

When the Living Word Himself (Christ) speaks, it melts (by the Holy Ghost) the renewed heart of a believer.

When Christ here proclaims to His bride, “Thou hast ravished my heart” (vs. 9), the believer thinks, “Can it be that Christ is speaking to me?” for the statement means by connotation, “You have wounded (or pierced) my heart with (the dart of) love (and joy).”

Imagine Him, Who is the apple of God’s eye, saying this to His bride, in whom there is no natural beauty.

The Bride cannot, except by faith, begin to comprehend such love as this: such love causes her to swoon in wonder at His sovereign grace. She thinks, “How is it possible that there is something lovely in one who is so prone to wander?”

With man it is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

The only beauty in the bride is the imputed beauty of Christ’s righteousness. His perfectness covers all those that the Father has ever loved … all those who are brought to Him by irresistible grace and made willing to call upon Him by faith for salvation.

When this bride (the one made perfect) is viewed through the Eternal Son, He (the Father, Who cannot lie) also looks upon her and says, “You have ravished my heart.”

What manner of love is this?
