A Short Study of 2nd Timothy 4:7

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
(2 Timothy 4:7)

——————–

To speak of fighting as being “good” seems at first to be a contradiction of terms. Fighting is often associated with grief, hurt, and misery. Considering the pitiful state of man by birth, any battle against sin and our spiritual bondage is good.

It is good because:

It is of God – there is none good but Him.

It is not waged by man’s strength.

Its cause is the honor, truth, and faithfulness of Christ.

It is under Christ , the Captain of our salvation.

Its weapons are spiritual and not carnal.

It has a sure victory.

To be made a soldier in the good fight is by God’s grace alone, so by his strength fight the good fight of faith!
