What Is The Doctrine of Baptismal Regeneration?

The doctrine of Baptismal Regeneration is the blasphemous and most certainly damnable doctrine that holds that the person baptised is or can be regenerated in, by or through water baptism, much less, if possible, by infant sprinkling.

The word of God never supports such a heresy instead we read marvelous verses showing clearly the truth of how God regenerates the sinner by his sovereign will.

John 1:13
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

The Word of God never speaks of the new birth through or by the waters of baptism.

The meaning of baptism – and this is something so many people miss – is “washing”.

And there is only one washing that is necessary, and that is the washing away of our sins by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

This is an action that God performs and not man.

Those who are in Christ – that is – those for whom Christ has suffered and died for have had their sins completely paid for and God looks open them as completely innocent and free from all of the filthiness and defilement of sin.

All of the believer’s sins, all of our guilt, has been washed away!

Revelation 1:5
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Not by the waters of baptism which is simply a sign, but by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ!

So where does water baptism come into this?

Water baptism is a sign, or a picture of this washing…to signify the washing away of our sins. But this sign, this picture of physical water being used in itself cannot assist in any form, to any degree whatsoever to wash away a single sin.

We have to be washed by God Himself!

Water baptism is simply an outward sign!

It does not wash away sins.

It does not initiate regeneration in any way whatsoever!

The purpose of water baptism is to give us a picture of salvation. It gives us a picture whereby we may may see that just as water washes dirt from the skin, so we have to have our sins washed away!

Have you been washed from your sins by the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ?
