A Short Study of Proverbs 15:6

“In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is much trouble.”
(Proverbs 15:6)

A wonderful antidote to covetousness is to recognize the great treasures that God’s people have in Christ. This verse is not promising material wealth to God’s people. Many of the saints have been and are very poor. Others have been blessed with more material possession. What is being taught here is the spiritual, eternal treasures of the redeemed of God.

One of the possible reasons that we have a strong lust for stuff is that we don’t see clearly enough what we have in the Lord. If we are in Christ, the Lord is our portion. Knowing, trusting and serving Him is to have a treasure that can never fade away. To love Him and be loved by Him is to know true satisfaction. To have a confident expectation of eternal glory and fellowship with God makes the temporary pleasures of earth pale in comparison.

Yes, we are rich in Christ!

True joy doesn’t depend upon what you have physically, but spiritually. It doesn’t depend upon what you have in the bank, but what you have in your heart and in the purpose of God.

Rejoice today in your treasure!
