Power to Lay Down His life and Raise it up Again.

“Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.”
(John 10:17-18)

From a human perspective it seems that cruel and wicked people did take the life of Jesus from Him. He was given an unjust trial, cruelly abused by the Jews, and subjected to the torturous Roman execution method of crucifixion. But, this was not a mere man-controlled event. According to Acts 2:23, it was pre-ordained by God. It was necessary for Christ to die this death. It wasn’t simply that the Romans and Jews took His life, but it was primarily that He voluntarily and willingly laid it down for the redemption of His people.

Not only did He voluntarily lay down His life, but He also raised Himself to life again!

There have been many brave martyrs throughout history who have, for a certain cause dear to them, laid down their lives. They have given the ultimate sacrifice. But none of them have ever been able to take their lives up again.

But Jesus did!

He is unique, different, set apart from all the others…He is God!

What power this is!

Power to lay down His life and raise it up again. This powerful Christ is still alive today. He has power to soften the hard hearts of sinful men, power to advance His kingdom in this world, power to give victory to you and I daily over our sins.

He is powerful, He is alive, He is God!
