Did Lazarus Have To Die Another Physical Death After He Had Been Raised By Christ?
After Lazarus was resurrected by the Lord Jesus, did he have to die another physical death?
Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha and a friend of Jesus, was resurrected after he had been dead for four days.
Did he have to die again?
Yes, he had to die again. That’s because he was merely brought back to life physically. But God uses that physical resurrection to illustrate how people are saved spiritually.
Before we became born again, Ephesians 2:1 tells us, we were dead in trespasses and sins. We were just as spiritually dead as Lazarus was physically dead. We couldn’t do a thing to get ourselves saved.
But God resurrected our soul even as He brought Lazarus’ body back to life. When the Lord told Lazarus to come forth, he came forth. It was entirely God’s action. Likewise, once God begins to draw us to Christ, we respond and come to Christ.
The difference is: whereas Lazarus had to die physically again, we will never suffer the second death.
Jesus is LORD!
